Is Our Earth Suffering Because of the Printing Industry?
The answer is actually... NO! Most people do not realize this but Print is Actually Green! Here's why:
-
We harvest trees, but we actually plant more.
"Roughly 600 million trees are planted every year by the paper and forest products industry, surpassing the amount harvested - approximately 3 trees for every 1 harvested."
~American Forest & Paper Association"There are more forests in the US today than there were 50 years ago."
~American Forest & Paper Association -
Trees are effectively used
"Forestry is the most sustainable of all the primary industries that provide us with energy and materials. To address climate changes, we must use more wood, not less. Using wood sends signals to the marketplace to grow more trees."
~Dr. Patrick Moore, Co-founder of Greenpeace, Chair/Chief Scientist of Greenspirit Strategies, Inc."Nearly 60% of the energy used to make paper in the US comes from carbon-neutral renewable resources and is produced on site at mills."
~Down to Earth - International Paper -
More of our products are recycled than just about anything.
We recycle printing plates, ink and toner canisters, shrink wrap, cardboard and shipping pallets. We recycle all paper waste and we use recycled stocks.
-
We use renewable inks.
Inks and toners are increasingly based on fruit and vegetable oils, not petroleum, making them more renewable.
